These cute fish shaped breads are literally called “fish bread” in Korea and “baked sea bream” in Japan. But they’re not actually made from fish, they’re just shaped like them. And inside these little fishy pockets are various fillings like sweet red bean paste or cinnamon and brown sugar. Sometimes they’re filled with chocolate, nutella, and cheese…the possibilities are endless with this little fish.
If you want to make these from scratch, you can use my Korean Pancake recipe. You’ll also need a fish shaped pan. If you have one already, lightly oil the pan and pour the batter in. Then put some filling on top and pour a little bit more batter on top. Close the pan and heat it on medium heat it for about 2 minutes and flip over for another 2 minutes. Depending on how soft you want the bread, you can leave it in the pan for a longer or shorter time.
And if you’re wondering where you can get one of these fish shaped pans, you can find them in asian markets or online. I had to buy mine online because the nearest asian market was sold out of them.
